Types of Evidence-Based Treatment Offered at Men of Nehemiah

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

The goal of CBT is to identify patterns of maladaptive behaviors and how they are linked to thoughts and feelings. Once these are identified, the client and the therapist work together to find a healthier behavior to replace the maladaptive behaviors with. In addiction treatment, this often includes identifying ways to respond differently to life stressors and cravings.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

Motivational interviewing is often used throughout the treatment process for when clients are having moments where they are on the fence about making a change in their behavior. It helps the client to look at all sides of their behavior – the good, the bad, and the ugly. This helps to build more insight and find motivation for creating lasting change.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR involves having clients recall traumatic events while using bilateral movements. The bilateral movements, such as tapping or eye movements, causes the individual’s brain to reprocess and desensitize itself to the traumatic memory to reduce trauma symptoms.

Neurofeedback

We identify maladaptive patterns for the client and replace them with healthier patterns by monitoring the brain activity. We use an electroencephalogram (EEG) to look at brain waves and emotional responses.

Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)

TF-CBT utilizes the same methods as general CBT. It also adds psychoeducation about trauma so that clients can build a better understand of how their trauma has affected them and influenced their substance use. TF-CBT also examines maladaptive patterns related to responses to trauma triggers and thoughts and works to replace them with healthier patterns.

Music Therapy

We incorporate our love for music within our treatment programs. You will have the opportunity to play music, sing, and perform in the choir at church. Music is a great way to express emotion and cope with stress.

12-Step Recovery Groups

12-Step Recovery groups incorporate religion and sense of community. It offers clients the opportunity to interact with comrades that are in different stages of recovery. It helps build a sense of community and purpose as clients work on their sobriety.
